“Let the music do the talking”

1 November, 2017

Out Of Words, also known as Eddy Wensveen, is new in the dance scene, but that doesn’t mean that his DJ skills aren’t there. In fact, Eddy is very talented and his musical direction very broad. He opened the Inspiration Session of Label Unknown’s first event in May this year, and we immediately fell in love with his deep, warm and melodic sound. We are proud to have him back with us on November 4th at Label Unknown’s “We Are Equal” event at de Prael Houthavens in Amsterdam, where Eddy will open with a 2 hour set on 4 pm sharp.

I visited Eddy in his Studio in Voorhout to talk about his musical journey and his ambitions. And trust me, there are quit some.

Eddy! What a pleasure being a guest in your studio. Do you still remember how we met?

For sure! It was at Hernan Cattaneo’s annual Woodstock edition at the beach in July 2016. It was the music that brought an instant connection between us, but it was not till last year that we started talking about Label Unknown. We did not even talk at first I think, it was the non-stop dancing and the music that said everything between us.

“It was the non stop dancing and the music that said everything between us”

Yes, it was indeed a great day and a start of a new friendship. When you heard about Label Unknown, what was you first thought?

I think it is a beautiful concept! I can relate to the idea that there is a message behind the music, such as emphasizing the connection between people. It is a platform to express compassionate morals and values, which are in line with how I look at the world. And the best thing is, it is all wrapped up in a party setting meaning that music is important. And guess what, music happens to be my biggest passion in life. So it is the perfect setting for me. I felt right at home and I am thankful that I am part of the Label Unknown community as it allows me to share my music to others.

You have been playing for a long time, but we haven’t seen you a lot. Part of Label Unknown’s philosophy is to offer a stage for upcoming and new talent. What can we expect from you and how do you want to grow as an artist?

I don’t aim to be a popular DJ; I play because it is a way to express myself. For me, it is important to tell a story; an emotional journey through music. Sharing a journey with music is easier for me than explaining something verbally. If my music moves and inspires other people, my mission succeeded. That’s the only real reason to make it on stage. I also believe that things will cross your path when the time is right. Maybe that is why Label Unknown crossed mine recently. Additionally, it is a great opportunity to develop myself in feeling and interacting with the crowd.

And after all, music does not judge. Music is always there for you and with you.

What is the essence of good music for you personally?

For me, good music has to encourage an experience. Like a good work of art, it drags you in a scene that opens emotions. It surprises you as the journey through all the different layers continues. Good music makes me experience shapes and colours, just like a painting.

If you had to pick one track that symbolizes you, which one would it be?

I find this a very difficult question because I don’t think it is just one track. However, if I look at the track that moved me the most past year, it would be ‘Childhood’ by Chicola. This track is very close to being the right example of how music can be felt and experienced.

All right Eddy, you are opening on Saturday. Anything you want to share with our crowd already?

Be there in time. I’m looking forward to take you on my journey and I will be ready for you at 4 pm sharp!
